Thanks to Nick Gaskin of Perth Champagne Club, we have a delicious bottle of 2005 Louis Roederer Cristal as a door prize at #SMPerth March.
Champagne Louis Roederer was founded in 1776 and is one of very few remaining Champagne houses that are family owned. Now in the 6th generation of the founding family they continue to have the same concern for quality that Madame Camille Olry-Roederer and Jean-Claude himself had all those years ago.
Louis Roederer is unique in the fact that they own two thirds of the vineyards for their total production, which is almost unheard of in this day and age.
Louis Roederer is the most iconic Champagne on the planet, identified by its clear, flat bottomed bottle wrapped in anti-uv cellophane and a gold label. Cristal was first produced in 1876 for Alexander II and is the first known prestige cuvee. Cristal only became available to the public in 1945 and is only made in years with perfect conditions.
There have only been 5 vintages in the last decade and the 2005 vintage which will be available as a door prize for #SMPERTH was described by Cellar-Master Jean-Baptiste LeCaillon as “This Cristal 2005 stands out from all other Cristal vintages due to its aromatic openness and typical “Chardonnay” character.”
