Another month has flown by and it is now the 1st of September, which means we post our monthly social media report showing the most popular social networks in Australia over August 2014.
Like previous months in 2014, we see user numbers remain relatively steady.

Key Points to Note/ Commentary
- Facebook remains the most popular social network, as they have done for years now – but online video content is very popular and we see YouTube reaching 13 million Australian’s for the first time.
- The hype around social media is not what is was in Australia during 2010/2011/2012 period – however among other younger people it seemsTinder is the ‘app of the moment’ and from my research I believe there are around 1 million Australian Tinder users (actively using the service).
- Google Plus has had another small drop according to my tools, and even independent social media agencies in Sydney I talk to do not place much emphasis (if any) on Google Plus anymore. Some SEO agencies are still spending a fair amount of time on Google Plus, but the returns are still minimal even when putting in significant time to get content shared, +1?d and distributed. I understand for some industries this network does better than others.
- With Foursquare forcing users to move to Swarm, we have noticed a bit of a drop off in users, however the actual number of application users is still unpublished information so this is our estimate.
