5 Minutes With Chantelle Cox

SMPerth // 21st April 2017

Let’s be honest, the SMPerth community is a pretty awesome bunch!

Each fortnight we’re bringing you ‘5 Minutes with’ some of our top members, and this week we caught up with Chantelle Cox, Social Media Manager at HBF.

Favourite Drink

Coffee! I’m not fussy on the form it takes either…  Soy Flat White, Espresso, Cold Brew, Espresso Martini, Affogato.
Can’t. Get. Enough.

Favourite platform and why?

I love the creative opportunities that come with Instagram. For me personally, I use Instagram as a type of visual diary but I also love trawling for inspiration for that next travel destination or drool-worthy recipe. All hail the newly introduced bookmark feature! From a brand perspective, having a presence on Instagram is all about authenticity, so I love the challenge of keeping our content on HBF Health and HBF Run channels as genuine as possible.

Prediction for what’s hot in digital marketing in the next 6 months?

Chatbots are the hot topic at the moment and they could potentially be embraced as a mainstream customer service tool. It’s helpful for customers needing answers to quick questions and efficient for businesses. With companies like Facebook making it easier and cheaper to build bots on their platforms, I think it will be interesting to see how these are embraced over the next 6 months by brands and people alike.  A way of the future or just another fad…I think the jury is still out!

What digital marketing trend do you think is totally overrated?

There’s an endless number of new trends and platforms always popping up in the digital world and I think a lot of the time it’s easy to get caught up in the hype… I mean who doesn’t want an excuse to buy Snapchat Spectacles! There’s this expectation that if you want your brand to be innovative or ahead of the curve you need to jump onto it. The reality is a new social media channel or gimmick will always require budget, time and resource. I think it’s important to recognise your brand can’t be everywhere, otherwise you spread yourself too thin.
Is Pinterest a good fit for your brand? Is your audience on Snapchat? Do you have something beneficial to say on Facebook Live?

Rather than being distracted by the latest craze, assess what platforms you should be active on, considering where your audience is and where you can add value to their lives. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t test and learn but it’s better to focus your efforts and do a great job at engaging that audience than constantly getting distracted by something new and shiny.

Remember back to your first SMPerth, what would you tell yourself to keep in mind?

Everyone you meet knows something you don’t!
I always feel so refreshed after an SMPerth meet-up, you learn so much and it’s so great to make the most of the chance to chat to likeminded people about what projects they’re up to, what challenges they’re facing and what excites them. There’s no better place to introduce yourself to a stranger and I promise you, you’ll always walk away knowing something you didn’t before.
