A Few Words: TEDxPerth continues to grow, as the team get ready to launch the 2015 event.
Now in its fourth year, TEDxPerth is fast becoming the must have event on the Perth calendar. Presenting a day of ideas worth spreading, TEDxPerth 2015 will again take over the Perth Concert Hall, this year on Saturday 7 November.
The Curation team are working hard to pull together an amazing line up of speakers for you and we look forward to announcing the program in early October.
TEDxPerth 2015 will again be streamed live online and TEDxPerth fans will be able to join the action from their homes, or organise their own viewing parties. Details of the live stream will be available soon on the TEDxPerth website.
Of TEDxPerth 2015, Creative Director Joel Miller says:
“There are exciting ideas in action right here in Perth – and these ideas get a global audience at TEDxPerth.”
“What makes TEDxPerth different from an ordinary conference is the diversity of topics. People are realising that the problems of the future will be solved by synthesising ideas, approaching issues from multiple angles – and this is what TEDxPerth is about. Leaders in science, business and in Perth come together to share their insights. It makes for a really interesting day.
“The community response has been huge – tickets to TEDxPerth are hot items and they sell out very quickly. This shows there is a hunger in the community for a deeper dialogue, an exchange of ideas that goes beyond sound bites.”
A new addition to TEDxPerth in 2015 is the Stranger Danger Breakfast. The breakfast will give a group of TEDxPerth attendees to not only expand their minds but expand their circle of friends! Developed in collaboration with the mysterious folk at Stranger Danger Dinners Perth, our breakfast will find attendees seated with a group of complete strangers where you can discuss life, the universe, and everything… and hopefully make some real connections.
TEDxPerth is again joined in 2015 by some amazing Principal Partners in Deloitte, Curtin University and City of Perth, and welcome new Principal Partner, Landgate and Major Partner RAC. See tedxperth.org for the full list of partners in 2015.
TEDxPerth is an independently organised TED event, held annually in Perth, Western Australia. Run by a team of hardworking volunteers, TEDxPerth is now in its 4th year. TEDxPerth has welcomed over 3000 audience members and many more online. Since its inception, TEDxPerth has given opportunities to 185 volunteers, and presented 37 amazing ideas worth spreading.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today’s leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED’s annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, and made available, free, on TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
TED’s open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; the annual million- dollar TED Prize, which funds exceptional individuals with a “wish,” or idea, to create change in the
world; TEDx, which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self- organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
