Peter Drucker once famously claimed, “Time is the scarcest resource and unless it is managed nothing else can be managed”.
In an age when the average Australian is spending 1hr 39mins on social media every day, truer words have never been spoken.
As Facebook continues to evolve and release new features, it’s sometimes difficult to keep up to date with all of them.
To make your life as a social media manager easier we have compiled of list of 10 little known Facebook marketing features and hacks you can try today to make your time spent on Facebook more efficient.
Like another page from your business page
We’re sure you know how to “like” a page from your personal account. But do you have a Facebook page for your brand that you want to get more active with? Liking pages as your brand is a fantastic way to build relationships with other brands.
It also allows you to see valuable insights from your competitors. Whose marketing is working and whose isn’t?
To like another page from your business page, click on the timeline of the page you want to “like”. Then, click the more options icon and select “Like As Your Page”.
Save links to view later
Facebook’s “Save” feature is super handy and allows you to browse your feed without losing any important articles that you don’t have time to read straight away.
You can save a post, save a video, or save a link to view at a time that best suits you.
Just click on the more options icon as shown below and select “Save link”.
You can access your “Saved” items by navigating the side menu bar. You can group your saved items into collections for easy viewing. For example, “articles to read later”, “funny videos”.
Make sure you use Audience Insights
Audience Insights allows you to better understand your audience and cater your content accordingly to increase engagement.
Pictured below, we did a quick search for people interested in ‘Yoga’ in Western Australia to give you an understanding of some insights you can access.
You must have Facebook Business to access this tool. If you don’t make sure you sign up, it’s free!
Use Post Attribution to post as the correct page.
Do you manage a bunch of different Facebook pages? Do you often find yourself “Liking” or “Sharing” a post to the wrong Facebook page?
If so, make sure you use Post Attribution to eliminate this issue.
This is also a handy feature if you have multiple page admins for a Facebook page.
To do this, go to the Settings tab on the desired page and click on Post Attribution.
Filter your page posts
Filtering your page posts is a great way to plan your social media content calendar. View all your filtered posts quickly and without the clutter of other news feed posts.
For example, if you filter by “Photos”, you can see an overview of:
- When you last posted an image?
- What image did you use?
- What was your copy?
You can filter by:
- Others’ posts to your timeline
Here’s how you do it: Click on “Activity Log” on the left menu of your Page settings and then click on your desired post type.
Use Facebook Pixel
Facebook Pixel is a piece of code that you add to your website. Facebook Pixel allows you to track user’s activity between Facebook and your website.
Using Facebook Pixel allows you to track how many times a certain action has occurred and allows you to retarget people who have visited your website.
Installing Facebook Pixel is rather simple to do. We’ve made a post explaining How to install and use Facebook Pixel for your convenience.
If you use WordPress, there are some free plugins that make installing the Facebook Pixel super easy. Insert Headers and Footers is a recommended free plugin.
Pin a post to the top of your page to increase visibility
If you have an important piece of content that you would like people to see when they first view your page, make sure you pin it!
Pinning posts is a simple and effective way to communicate important information to your audience.
To do this: Click on the more options icon on your desired post and select “Pin to Top of Page”.
Turn “Likes” into “Fans”
When you are running an advertisement, you will reach people who have not liked your Facebook page, but they may like your post.
We want these people to “like” our page so we can reach them organically with all our future posts.
To do this: Click on the likes under your Facebook post. From here, a new window will pop up that will allow you to “Invite” people who have liked your post to like your Facebook page.
View top posts from pages you watch
If your Facebook page has more than 100 likes, you can have access to the “Top Posts from Pages You Watch” feature.
This allows you to monitor your competitors and see how their content is performing against yours.
It gives you some great insights including:
- Total page likes (Their % +/- difference from the previous week)
- The amount they have posted to Facebook this week
- Total engagement count for this week
You can follow up to 100 pages with this feature, so make sure you carefully select who to follow. It’s important to consider:
- Leaders in your space
- Brands that have a strong social identity
- Top brands from around the globe
To access “Top Posts from Pages You Watch”, click on your page insights and click on posts (located on the left side menu).
Mark all Notifications as read to eliminate stress
If you’re running an advertisement campaign, there is nothing worse then getting a notification every two minutes. Before you know it, you have 40 notifications and your organisation anxiety is starting to go a little crazy.
We can’t turn the notifications off because we need to stay engaged. But if you have a quick glance at the notifications and they are just a bunch of ‘likes’, save yourself the hassle of clicking on all of them.
A quick hack to clean up your Facebook page is to “Mark All as Read”.
To do this click on the notifications icon and directly below it you will find the option to “Mark All as Read”.
