For four years #SMPerth has brought together digital marketers and social media enthusiasts on the last Tuesday of every month.
Together we have successfully built a community of like-minded people.
On the 27th of June, we invited guests to celebrate our 4th birthday and the 40th event that we have hosted.
Western Australians love social media, and as the Sensis report revealed, we use it more than any other state! The turnout for our birthday celebration was a testament to this love of social media, and our desire to share the knowledge and learn from our peers.
Guests filled the upstairs bar at the Northbridge Brewing Company on Lake Street and soon all eyes and ears were on our MD, Meg Coffey, as she said her welcomes for the event and introduced the special guest.
The guest speaker for the evening was Nick Stamatiou from Deloitte who works with large companies as an IP Consultant. It has become a hot topic for many of us with social influencers and user-generated content becoming more frequent in marketing. Nick was able to explain to our guests the laws around intellectual property and how both individuals and brands are protected.
Nick also shared some insight into copyright laws and the changing times with the advancements of the internet, digital technology and of course, social media.
There were some poignant questions from our guests around how educators sharing their knowledge online may find they need to protect their IP and how the recently introduced privacy laws in Germany around data and Facebook advertising might affect us.
The evening brought together professionals from a range of industries, all having an awareness of the importance of social media for businesses of all kinds.
A big thank you to all of you who joined us on the night and have made this happen, as Meg said in her speech, “this is our birthday, you are the reason we are still here four years on.”
We look forward to seeing you join us for a drink at our next event in July at Bobeche, make sure you register your interest as places are limited.
